Billiard table

Billiards is defined as a game played on a table with a cue and balls. It is based on physics and geometry. People play billiards worldwide. Most people play on a nine foot table outside of the United States. Great Britain originated the game of billiards on a nine foot table. We call that game snooker. As Great Britain increased its influence around the world, snooker became popular throughout the areas which were influenced by the British. Snooker was also popular in the United States, however, it has given way to the game of pool that is played on seven foot and eight foot billiard tables.

The regulation size table for playing pool in the United States is the eight foot table. Americans basically play pool on seven-foot tables in bars and other recreation facilities because of space limitations. The pool tables that we sell to home-owners are generally eight foot tables.

The playing surface of a billiard table is made of a large slab of slate, which comes in three pieces.. Slate is a rock that splits on it’s own in flat pieces.

Slate is generally composed of:

• chlorite

• mica

• quartz

The slate we used for a billiard table is ground and polished into a perfectly flat surface. All three pieces of slate are ground and honed at the same time and packaged together for shipping. Major exporters of slate are Brazil, China, India, and Italy.

The pool table cabinet is a large rectangular wooden frame made of thick wood. The wood used in the cabinets is one and one-quarter inches thick. You will find one center beam and two cross beams. The beams used in our tables are about five and one-half inches thick. The center beam two cross beams help provide additional support to the slate. Our frame is connected at the corners with metal brackets. Our slate is diamond honed to a very smooth surface and has a wood backing for easy attachment of the felt.

Four legs support our pool tables. They are solid hardwood and hand carved to perfection to provide the best support and the solid wood legs are square and beautiful. Our solid oak legs are the best we have available. Our hand tooled leather billiard pockets are genuine leather and are a complimentary finishing touch to our billiard tables.

Action billiard tables are so well built that they are easy for our customers to assemble them themselves. The cabinet is already built and ready for the rest of the assembly process. The best way to assemble one of our pool tables is to lay the cabinet upside down and then attach the legs. The billiard table is then set upright and the assembly process completed. We make it easy for the customer by felting the rails, for a small charge, and sending them a video showing them how to complete assembling the table. We pride ourselves in making a high quality billiard so that customers can assemble their own table without any problems.

Our billiard table has rails that are made of hardwood as well. The rail is combined of two pieces, the hardwood itself and the cushion of the rail. Our billiard table cushions are made of ULYIN rubber. This is the leader in the industry and we have chosen to, once again, provide the highest quality material . The cushions are covered with felt and provide a consistent response to the balls as they strike. Secured to the outside of each rail is the apron or blind. This strip of wood matches the rest of the billiard table and is attached firmly.

The billiard table normally has a tight woven cloth made of wool or nylon called felt. It provides the billiard table with a consistent and smooth playing surface. Our standard felt is 21 ounce and an excellent grade of felt. The felt should last you for several years of playing on the billiard table.

Wood satin finishes emphasize the radiant and elegant beauty of our billiard table. Our tables go through a complex finishing process to ensure the beauty and elegance of the table.
