One of the most essential tools in playing billiards on a billiard table or pool table is the cue stick. The construction of the cue stick is the same except for the kind of wood used, grip, middle connector, and the tip.

The types of wood used in cue sticks are numerous. We have chosen to use oak in all of our cue sticks and birds-eye oak in our top of the line cue sticks.

The grip material can be:

  •  wood

  • nylon wrap

  • Irish linen, or

  • wrapping used on tennis rackets which is not considered a good wrap. We use nylon wrap on our economical and our medium grade cue sticks. Irish linen is used on our top level cue sticks.

The middle connector is normally made of plastic, brass, stainless steel, and there is a stainless steel quick release middle joint. We use the plastic joint on our economical cue sticks, and the stainless joint is used on our medium grade cue sticks. On our top level cue sticks, we use the stainless steel joint with the quick release.

The other important part of the cue stick is its tip. Tips are basically rubber or layered leather. Our economical cue sticks have rubber tips and our medium grade and top grade cue sticks have layered leather tips.

As you can see there are quite a few variances in cue sticks. Our economical cue sticks are made of oak, the base is wrapped with nylon,
the joint is plastic, and the tip is rubber. Our medium grade cue sticks are made of oak, wrapped with nylon, have a stainless steel joint, and the tip is layered leather. Our top grade cue sticks are made of birds-eye oak, wrapped with Irish linen, have a stainless steel joint with a quick release, and a layered leather tip. If you are needing a pool table light, those are available also

Some general rules about billiards.

In order to play a game of Billiards on a billiard table, normally each player has a cue stick and there are 15 balls and a cue ball. The number 1 through 8 balls are solid color and the numbers 9 through 15 have stripes on them

When playing on a billiard table, the players normally play a billiard game that requires a triangle for all 15 of the balls to be racked or somewhat of a diamond shaped rack for playing nine balls on a billiard table. All the balls are pressed together in order to have contact with each other. The lead ball should be spotted on the white dot on the table. At this point, the balls are considered racked to begin the game.

The cue ball can be placed anywhere behind the second sight marks from the end of the billiard table that the lead player breaks from. The breaking player may set the cue ball from where he chooses.

In the game of eight ball, the first player breaks the balls in a triangle on the table. The table is considered open until the first ball goes into a pocket, excluding the cue ball. When the first ball is pocketed, generally the game begins with the player, who pocketed the ball choosing the type of ball he pocketed. If it was a striped ball, then he has stripes and if it was a solid color, then he has solids. Each player strives to get all of his balls in pockets and when his last ball goes into a pocket, he is eligible to pocket the eight ball. Whoever gets the eight ball into a pocket first, wins the game.
